Beginners 6 week Sewing Course
Saturday Mornings April 4 - May 9th 10am -12pm
Learn to sew in the supportive and creative environment of a group setting with the skilled guidance of Sacramento based designer, Ariel, of Handsome House Design Co.
Created for enthusiastic beginners, this 6wk course will familiarize you with how to use a domestic sewing machine to create totes and basic garments! Ariel will lead the class through basic functions of the machine, stitching, pinning, pressing and hemming. You will learn how to read a pattern, select fabric, and assemble your design.
Together you will each create your own oversized “Market Bag” and a simple Blouse or pair of Lounge Pants.
Meet new people in the creative community, learn a new skill, and complete the course with two of your own handmade designs!
Skills Learned:
Domestic sewing machine set-up, threading, and stitching
Accessory and garment steps of assembly
Understanding patterns, fabric selection, notions, and pattern layout/grainline
Best For:
Complete beginners or those who have taken a break from sewing and need a thorough overview.

8 week intermediate Sewing Course for garment makers
Saturdays April 4 - May 23rd 12:30pm -3pm
Take a Deep Dive into garment construction with this comprehensive 8wk. Intermediate sewing course. Designed for students who are comfortable with the machine and are ready to refine their skills. This course moves quickly; teaching closures and advanced seam finishes as well as minor pattern adjustments for fit and style.
Beginning with the creation of a Technique Sample Pack, you will gain confidence and a tangible reference guide for your final project, a Custom Chore Coat!
Samples Include:
Separating, lapped, and invisible zippers
French, Bound, and Flat-Felled Seaming
Machine-Made Buttonholes

Donated fabric and notions can be made available to students free of charge as needed

Students with basic machine knowledge (can thread machine and sew straight lines) and having made at least one pull-on garment.
